China card, play multiple times in same turn? And influence.

Hi

If someone played the china card straight away (after the headline) can the other player play it in the same turn?

And

If a card says to 'place influence' does it cost twice the points if the country is controlled? (Like ops)

Thanks

The China card is received face down (after an opponent's play of it), and can only be played if face up. So no to the first question (you must wait until the 'Flip the China card' phase at the end of the first turn.

There is one way, for each side:

For the Soviets, they can play the China Card, turn it face down and give it to their opponent, then play Cultural Revolution to receive it face up from the opponent on that Action Round, such that they can subsequently play it again that Turn.  For the U.S., same thing, except substitute Cultural Revolution with Ussuri River Skirmish.  My opinion: it is probably worth it to do that with Cultural Revolution, but probably not worth it to do so with Ussuri (as in, I'd probably rather play Ussuri while I still have the China Card).  But it all depends on the circumstances.

I should clarify that the play of Cultural Revolution or Ussuri would have to be on a subsequent Action Round after the play of the China Card.  Clearly you cannot play more than one card on a given Action Round (barring exceptional circumstances, such as UN Intervention).

And I should also clarify that I didn't read the OP's question carefully enough to note that he said the "other" player, making my posts irrelevant.  Thanks for playing.

Haha I appreciate it nonetheless!

Going off our interpretation of RAI we were playing the china card correctly, although doing the influence from events wrong.
