How do you sit when you play the Struggle face-to-face.

I have a minor case of OCD, so this bugs me tremendously.  My preferred way is both players on the same side of the table, with the US sitting to the left of the USSR.  However, at the game store, it seems most everyone else plays accross the table, with the Soviets looking at the board upside down.  This bothers me quite a bit.  As the Soviet player, I can deal with but, but have an urge to flip my influence markers to face me (they are *my* markers, am I not right?).

So I was curious as to how you guys sit when you place face-to-face.

Play with the Soviets looking at the board upside-down, but flip their influence markers to face them, just like you wanted to.

I only ever play the game standing up. Sitting makes me very angry and can precipitate a nuclear shambles. The risks aren't worth it.

But seriously, I like standing and pacing and thinking. It makes for easy repositioning to see the board and it can unnerve my opponent if I'm padding around in the background like some sort of Cold War stalking killer, or maybe a predatorial neighborhood clown with secret torsos in his ice cream van to keep track of the hostages.

Each to their own!

This is why I like the layout of 1989; vertical is a little weird, but it does allow both players a fair look at the board.

I wish more games had features that made sense for the player sitting on the upside-down side. I think that Paths of Glory could really benefit from a better arrangement. Red Winter seems set up nice... just thinking through games I have played recently.

Empire of the Sun could be better. Washington's War has the vertical arrangement, and it's nice to play.

Since I'm usually the more experienced player face-to-face, I tend to face the map away from me no matter what side I play.

I have only played 3-4 games, all except one against the same similarly inexperienced player. We sit looking sideways with the USSR player on the Americas side and the US player on the Asia side.

We play it with both players in the "bottom corners" with USA closes to South America and USSR in the corner of Australia.

Why would you play upside down? Just seems weird.

If you were at a game store they should get fancy and get one of them round whirley tables like they have in Chinese restaurants.
