Hi!

Assuming that:
  • USSR did not put his opening setup in any extraordinary way, suggesting fast combo (Comecon Trap, or 3EGER/3POL/3YUG suggesting Socialists Governments and +6VP Europe Scoring in AR1)
  • USA doesn't have Marshall Plan
  • USA has at least one 4Ops card (or Containment that can be headlined and playable 3Ops card)

What do you think of such an opening as US: 2WGER/3ITA/1GRE/1TUR?

The idea is to fix Mediterranean countries as soon as possible while keeping flexible in WGER. Truman makes Ops-war in WGER speculative for USSR and USA may as well wait for Blockade with controlling it (maybe keeping 2 IPs won't be worth discarding 3Ops card?). The only real threat from USSR is Socialists Governments taking away 2WGER/1ITA combined with successful AR1 Italy coup. This is why USA needs 4Ops-card: to immediately control France (thus gaining WGER adjacency) and make use of non-couping Iran by putting IP to Pakistan. The further US play involves 1IP to WGER (if non-controlled by USSR), controlling Spain/Portugal, repairing France after Suez/De Gaulle, 1IP to India, and, finally, controlling Greece and Turkey.

SocGov can get pretty nasty (-2 WGer -1 Tur leaves you with basically ITA/GRE), no ME access, which was advantage, no Germany neither.

The not full WG setups are at in my experince as common as empty WG. I personally don't like leaving IT to 3.
