Funny openings

Ive been thinking about the idea of unusual openings that can lead to and interesting situation and the rest of the game. The asumptions is: with my starting setup/T1 headline/Ar1 i will do THAT and see what happens. I guess it should be sth crazy but not lets say: as US give my +2 to Israel and headline Arab-Israeli War. It should have some chances of success in fact may even be an alternative for a standard play.

Had some ideas (some other were presented in this forum already like japan mutual pact and +2 S Korea):

Starting Europe setup: 5 France, 1 Greece, 1 Turkey - i did that several times when holding blockade and decol/destal. Much better if u have duck and cover in hand (no danger of taking Italy by USSR wo the chance to react). U secure France for the rest of the game and give USSR hard thinking. If he enters Italy u can coup him. If he copus Iran u just take Italy.

AR1 USSR - realign Australia with 4 ops. Thats extraordinary :D Imagine leaving USA with no Australia influence :D

Softer version: Cambridge 5 to Australia in the headline.

AR1 USA - coup Iraq with high ops card and se him gone from ME (except Syria) - he wont thank u for that.

AR1 USSR - coup Phillipnes - why isnt anyone doing that?

It is even possible to empty Middle East at all: USSR realigns Iran and Israel followed by counter realign: Iraq and Syria.

Nice :)

About your opening: USSR can put 4 Ops in Italy during his AR1. Even if you coup it and roll 6, you both got rid of 4Ops cards which should be in favor of USSR at this stage.

I have played Australia realignments once but I used China Card for this to have 5 rolls. I was fortunate enough to kick US entirely from Australia, Phillippines, and South Korea. I was a beginner then. I have even once realigned Europe on my AR1 and emptied West Germany and Italy after a series of fortunate rolls.

Cambridge Five to Australia is very strong because it provides USSR access to Southeast Asia without Decol, Destal, or Vietnam Revolts, and makes US strategy in that region much tougher than just going to Malaysia once DEFCON is at 3 (or even coup, if you don't have to worry about VR and de-cards). Incidentally, I'd like to see some Australia-related events in the deck. For example: change the starting setup from 4/0 to 2/0 in Australia and add:

Menzies Doctrine* (US, 1Op, Early War)
Subtract 1 from USSR roll for Korean War. Vietnam Revolts no longer boost cards operations value.

I haven't couped Iraq as US that early. I have, however, realigned USSR from Middle East entirely. It's just worth noting that cutting USSR off Middle East in a long run is a pipe dream.

With US +2 to Iran if I have USSR and have a strong hand, I sometimes risk playing 2 to Afghanistan and 2 to Iraq on my first move, threatening realignment rolls against Iran. This usually leads to a risky game, whether US wants it or not, since the best answer for this is 4 to Pakistan IMHO. And then, well -- let's see whom dice like more :)

How about 5 France + 2 Greece? If USSR puts 4 into Italy, realignment has 76% chance.
