Turn 1 USA problems

I've RSP'd him in the opener, and also have Containment in hand, playing that event gives me a net gain of 2 OPS max, but removes the event so I'm guessing its best to keep it and maybe headline it next Turn.

I set up 4 WGER 3 ITA and popped the extra IPS into IRAN (2/0) and Canada I think (3/0), probably should have put that in Spain or Greece since I dont specifically have NORAD yet

he headlines Fidel so now he's got Cuba, and AR1 he coups IRAN and clears it out (0/0). DEFCON now 4

I have Korean War (which I could dump now, worst case losing and putting 2 ops back in SKOR as suggested on this site), but also some nasties like Nasser, Socialist Governments - Cambridge 5 is no worries as I have no scoring cards. Also UN Intervention, and SPecial Relationship.

DEFCON is at 4, but theres nothing to go for in ASIA other than Korea,I do have Japan as he used USJAP to coup IRAN.
Middle East hes just got the 1 in IRAQ and SYRIA, so I am thinking a coup in IRAQ would help, but I'd need 8 to get even 1 IP in there, and he could still counter coup (though he has RSP so might not have a lot of ops on hand). Realigning him out of the middle east leaving the one solitary IP in ISRAEL doesnt seem like it will help a lot, he can get to Afghanistan anyway so hes closer to locking the triangle in any case and little chance for me to get in there now.

Also for max OPS I'd need to UN Intervention SOC GOV and hold NASSER but I wonder if I should hold on to SOC GOV and UN Nasser instead
3 ops gets me domination in ASIA which might get him nervous (SKOR, PHIL) but I have the Korean War to worry about,

I'm not used to the "empty IRAN" result so wonder how you guys would think out this kind of opening turn hand as the USA given he is under RSP

The empty Iran problem is one of the biggest US scares in Early War. Therefore you should always(!) put the extra two inf in Iran, to maximize your chances of staying in the iron triangle.
If empty Iran happened anyway, you must get back there. Threatening Asia domination is a nice one though, so let's try that first.

AR1 - dump Korean War, and put the 2 inf into South Korea
If Korea is uncontrolled after the Soviet reply, the plan changes to a simple ops war for South Korea, with only a slow walk from Israel towards Iran. If it is controlled (by anyone):
AR2 - Special Rel. to control Jordan
AR3 - Cambridge 5 - enter Iraq, breaking control if necessary (if you have 1 op spare, put it in Costa Rica).
AR4 - Nasser to Iran
AR5 - Containment control Iran and Pakistan
AR6 - SocGov + UN (if Blockade event was not played) - coup Egypt

If at any time the Soviets enter Iran or Pakistan, coup with Containment. If the Soviets lower DEFCON, divert some ops to SE Asia.

I couldnt put 2 in IRAN as he insisted on the "no overcontrol" rule for the extra IP unfortunately (I had never heard of this but I'm only playing to learn and for fun so I wasnt going to argue)

I think the no overcontrol rule is reasonable, but it's essentially like playing at +1.

You definitely want Nasser to trigger. The last thing you want is Nasser to come out after Sadat. UN Intervention on Social Governments is a fine move.

Pushing into South Korea is your best immediate move, I think. Make sure to have the event first, then use the ops. You'll want to put 2 ops in South Korea regardless of the result of the war, probably.

In his position, he should quickly drop defcon and take pakistan.
If he doesn't do this, then try to secure south korea. Once this is done, walk through the middle east to pakistan.
If he goes into asia and your coup works, try to take Pakistan, India, and Iran, of course.
If he goes into asia and you can't stop him, then take Southeast Asia.
