PBEM game question

When playing PBEM, do you take notes (for example, when a scoring card came out)?  The drawn-out nature of a PBEM game modifies the nature of the gameplay such that some may feel this type of note-taking is necessary...

If you do, do you think your opponent should be aware at the game's start?

Some people take notes on Wargameroom.  I tried it for a while but found it too distracting.

Dominion has had this problem with people using automated score trackers or writing down deck contents.  In my mind, when you sign up for an online tournament, you implicitly acknowledge all such risks.
