Matty Defense (USA) and I (USSR) are in T10.

CA - USA dom (2-1 and USSR controls Mex with 2 INF)
SA - split
AFR - USSR dom (4-2)
ME - USSR dom (5-1 and Egypt is in USA's hands at 6-1)
ASIA - Split but USSR has BG at 4-2 and USA controls AFGHAN 4-1
EUR - USA dominate at 4-1

Defcon is at 3
VP is at USA +2
USSR can see USA headline
Norad is in effect

USSR has How I learned, Ames, Reformer, Suez Crisis, Quagmire, China, Asia scoring, Liberation Theology, Death Squads, Chernobyl
USA has Missile Envy, JP2, Decol, ABM, Cultural Revolution, Grain Sales, Arms Race, Africa scoring, OPEC

This game could have gone either way.  If the USA has a successful coup in Africa, scoring is split and the USA meets the required OPs putting the final scoring at 0.  If the USA doesn't draw Asia scoring when Grain Sales is played, the USSR doesn't get the extra OPs in turn 10.  If the USSR used two OPs to break USA's control of Japan rather than Afghan in AR6 AND follows it up with a 3 OP card on AR7, USSR dominates Asia at the end of the game.

After Matty and I both realized the errors we made, we simultaneous shaking our heads in dismay.  Feel free to armchair QB our play especially mine.  I had no clue how in the order to play Quagmire, Ames, and Reformer when I knew Missle Envy was being headline.

An addendum to this:

Tony had the Space Race advanced so he could see my HL card.  That is how he knew that I had HL'ed MEnvy.

We just replayed this knowing what we know now.  Had Matty HLed Missile then played ABM, the game probably would have played out with the USSR winning with 1 VP or it would have been a tie.
