The server elects to play with the 2013 Internet Twilight Struggle League default rules
(Optional cards, +1 Influence to the USA)
The server chooses the USA
The client will be playing the USSR
************************************************************
**              The  deck is being shuffled.              **
************************************************************

my turn 1 hand is:
#34  Ops 4: Nuclear Test Ban
#30  Ops 2: Decolonization (USSR)
#105  Ops 2: Special Relationship (USA)
#102  Ops 2: Defectors (USA)
#25  Ops 3: Containment * (USA)
#2: Europe Scoring
#23  Ops 4: Marshall Plan * (USA)
#17  Ops 3: De Gaulle Leads France * (USSR)

Its always nice when you can't decide what card to headline.  I really like the Marshall Plan setup but decide to go with defectors just in case he has purge or suez in his hand.  I'll hold onto degaulle until late in the turn to defend against blockade.  Decol will be my hold card.

Quote
4 USSR influence added to Poland, now at 4
1 USSR influence added to East Germany, now at 4
1 USSR influence added to Austria, now at 1

4 USA influence added to West Germany, now at 4
3 USA influence added to Italy, now at 3
1 USA extra influence added to Iran, now at 2
** Turn 1 Headline Phase **
Soviet Headline Card: #9  Ops 2: Vietnam Revolts * (USSR)
American Headline Card: #102  Ops 2: Defectors (USA)
The Defectors card cancels out the Soviet-played Headline Event.
** Turn 1 Action Phase **

Turn 1, USSR action round 1
The Soviets play the following card for Ops
#4  Ops 3: Duck and Cover (USA)
They elect to have the American event occur first.
DEFCON Level lowered to 4
VPs up 1, now at 1

The Soviets use the Duck and Cover card for a coup attempt:
Coup attempt in Iran (stability 2):
      ** USSR die roll = 5 (+3) = 8
The modified roll exceeds the doubled stability by 4.
American influence in Iran reduced by 2, now at 0
Soviet influence in Iran increased by 2, now at 2
DEFCON Level lowered to 3
Soviet Military Operations for this turn increased to 3

Good thing i went with defectors or I would have been hurting badly in asia. I have plenty of ops in my hand so i decided to try and get back into iran.

expansion throughout se asia and scoring europe domination.  When he played cia i saw that he had blockade in his hand so i will hold onto degaulle in case he plays the event. I hope he doesnt so i can keep decol out of the reshuffle.

Turn 1, USSR action round 6

The Soviets play the following card to place influence:
  #10  Ops 1: Blockade * (USSR)
1 USSR influence added to Iraq, now at 4

expanding through the middle east and very happy he played blockade for ops..i will have to continue being aware of its presence but that is preferable to putting decol into the reshuffle.

Turn 1, USA action round 6
The Americans play the following card for Ops
#17  Ops 3: De Gaulle Leads France * (USSR)

1 USA influence added to Burma, now at 1
DEFCON Level raised to 3
** Turn 2 Headline Phase **

since europe has been scored i dont totally recontrol france.  I use the 3rd influence point to give myself access to india so i can possibly dominate asia if i can get formosan activated.  Here is the map at the end of turn 1.

My turn 2 hand is

#30  Ops 2: Decolonization (USSR)
#5  Ops 3: Five Year Plan (USA)
#8  Ops 2: Fidel * (USSR)

#28  Ops 3: Suez Crisis * (USSR)
#33  Ops 3: De-Stalinization * (USSR)
       Ops 2 : Arab/Israeli war (USSR)

No real good headline here. I really want to play everything for ops.  I go with arab/israeli war, maybe fidel would have been better.  I will be sending decol to space here and holding destal. This is my second nice hand of the game, plenty of ops and i've kept the two key ussr cards out of his hand.

Looks like you have had some monster OPS hands and were able to mitigate the USSR events.  The play into Iraq is not a wasted OP - it really has/had a twofold purpose:

1 - Gives you backdoor access to Saudi Arabia.  Yes I know that Jordan does as well, but as you can see in point #2....
2 - Gives you access to Gulf States which is NOT affected by Muslim Revolution.

Also, in Late War, if you control Gulf States AND Jordan (and if you are really lucky add Saudi Arabia), that is a really nice bonus if you decide to use Iran/Iraq War as an event.

my turn 4 hand:

#76  Ops 3: Ussuri River Skirmish * (USA)
#72  Ops 1: Sadat Expels Soviets * (USA)
#55  Ops 2: Willy Brandt * (USSR)
#36  Ops 3: Brush War

#71  Ops 2: Nixon Plays the China Card * (USA)
#41  Ops 2: Nuclear Subs * (USA)
#64  Ops 1: Panama Canal Returned * (USA)

my thought process going into this turn was i can use ussuri and the china card to fight for n korea and use nixon to take it back...or i can just use them for ops and hold onto china depending on where my needs lie. I may need the ops to fight for south america here.

my hold on africa has slipped, but i still have a slight domination. asia is now mine and i have access to the southern part of south america. I made a mistake not controlling egypt but the middle east is my only problem area at the moment so it's not too big of a deal. No real vp change that turn but the scoring cards are out there somewhere.

My turn 5 hand:
#75  Ops 2: Liberation Theology (USSR)
#77  Ops 3: 'Ask Not What Your Country Can Do for You... * (USA)
#35: South America Scoring
#50  Ops 4: 'We Will Bury You' * (USSR)

                  Africa scoring
Ops 3 : Bear trap* (USA)
Ops 2 : How I learned to Stop worrying*

I am very much against headlining scoring cards. For some reason i decide to take the risk here and headline africa. thanksfully i don't get burned.

Iraq is nice because you are unlikely to be dislodged from there, and can play back into Iran later.

@ bsheehan:  Your T4 hand was insane!  USSR had some pretty good rolls against you, but you were able to really exploit where he was weak.

Nice win!
